13th Annual Maine Downtown Conference
Green and Healthy Maine Streets: New Economic Vitality for Downtowns!
May 31st, 2013
Point Lookout in Northport and Downtown Belfast
Thank you to all sponsors, participants, and volunteers for making this year's conference such a successful event!
Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco presented the keynote. Educational sessions in cultural tourism, design/historic preservation, local foods, and Healthy Maine Streets featured national speakers, inspiring examples and creative solutions for downtown revitalization.
Point Lookout in Northport provided the ideal setting for the plenary presentation and educational breakout sessions. We enjoyed the annual Maine Downtown Achievement Awards over a delicious healthy lunch in the Pavilion; then, the afternoon continued in historic downtown Belfast, a short 12 minute drive north. We reconvened downtown (parking and details to be announced) to discover close-up and personal how a nationally-designated Main Street community gets things done Belfast-style! Four concurrent Discovery Tours were scheduled back to back, so everyone could attend two: Architecture & Preservation, Upper Floors & Interiors, Creative Economy, and the Working Waterfront and while there “discover” Belfast’s great shopping opportunities! We kept the networking going with a Conference-After-Hours to celebrate a great day on the deck and patio at the Three Tides and Marshall Wharf Brewery.
Post-Conference Activity Option: Catch the Pygmalion on May 31, beginning the 2013 Season of the Midcoast Actors’ Studio - click here for details.
Included: Conference tote, program, materials and surprises; the Downtown Achievement Awards; breakfast and lunch featuring local foods; the Main Street Forum and silent auction fundraiser.
New this year: The People’s Choice Award! From fairs to festivals and retail events to farmer’s markets, Maine’s downtowns have some of the best events in the country! Vote for your favorite special event that occurred within the last 12 months in any of our 10 Main Street or 20 Downtown Network communities! The winner will be announced at the Conference!
