Join the Maine Downtown Center for our first Green Design session of the Downtown Institute as we explore how every downtown in Maine can benefit by going green.  Our presenters will discuss innovative solutions to recycle and reuse older buildings, enhance community walkability, increase the green canopy and nature downtown, incorporate green and renewal energy methods in buildings and grow local environmental advocacy and partnerships.  This interactive session calls upon the audience to share their good examples and will close with a demonstration of Google SketchUp – a 3d modeling and design program ideal for downtowns. Greg Paxton, Executive Director of Maine Preservation, will introduce and facilitate the session.

Our presenters: Nancy Barba, AIA, Principal Architect, Barba Wheelock, Architecture, Preservation, Design, Portland; representatives from Ekistics Planning and Design including Steve Ribble, Maine Licensed Landscape Architect. Bangor; and Douglas Baston, President, North Atlantic Energy Advisors, Alna. The session closes with a computer demonstration of Google SketchUp by Wright Pierce Engineers.

Advance registration is required by April 2. No refunds on cancellations after April 2.

$35 per session
$25 per session for Main Street Maine communities, Maine Downtown Network communities, and Maine Development Foundation members
