LEADERSHIP MAINE RECRUITMENT
The Maine Development Foundation is proud to announce the open application
period for Leadership Maine. From January 1 through March 28, 2003 MDF
will accept applications for the eleventh group, the Lambda class, whose 2003-2004
educational experience begins in June.
Leadership Maine was developed by the Maine Development Foundation in
1993 to build the state’s leadership capacity.
Each year, the program prepares a select and diverse group of 45
statewide leaders to better meet the challenges of the complex issues facing
Maine’s economy. Beginning in January, briefings are being held around the state.
To learn more about the program, please plan on attending one at a
location nearest you. These are all
free of charge.
The program consists of
eight events held in different locations across the state. The three-day
opening retreat examines different leadership styles, explores the dynamics of
building a project team, and reviews the overall goals of the program. Sessions
2 – 6 cover broad themes based on the work of the Maine Economic Growth
Council. Using guest speakers, group
discussion, field experiences and simulation, these sessions explore specific
issues in relationship to Maine’s economy.
The closing retreat provides participants with the opportunity to
present their project findings, and complete a personal action plan for moving
Maine forward. The graduation ceremony
completes the yearlong experience with a keynote speaker, reflections by class
representatives, and transition into the Leadership Maine alumni
program.
Leadership Maine helps leaders understand our dynamic economy, refine
their leadership skills, and build networks with other leaders in Maine. Participants establish a bond of friendship
and respect that serves as a common ground for working together in the future.
The 378 alumni represent every county and business sector. Such leaders include Governor Angus King,
Jr., Brad Hunter of Fleet Bank, and Nancy Hensel of the University of Maine at Presque
Isle.
