Measures of Growth In Focus 2014
The Maine Economic Growth Council released Measures of Growth In Focus 2014 on March 11. This 20th annual report highlights 27 indicators that measure Maine's progress toward long-term, sustainable economic growth.
The Growth Council awarded Gold Stars to three indicators that demonstrate exceptional performance: Sustainable Forest Lands, Air Quality, and Water Quality. The Growth Council also assigned five Red Flags to indicators that need particular attention: Research and Development Expenditures, Fourth Grade Reading Scores, Cost of Health Care, Poverty, and Wellness and Prevention. Overall, eight indicators moved closer to their benchmarks, four lost ground relative to their benchmarks, eleven made no significant movement relative to their benchmarks, and four were not assigned grades.
