ECM included in Maine Development Foundation's Policy Leaders Academy

Karen Heck

Karen Heck of the Bingham Program offers an overview to legislators of the science of early childhood brain architecture.

More than 75 members of the Maine House of Representatives and Maine State Senate toured Educare Central Maine on January 14 as part of the Maine Development Foundation's Policy Leaders Academy.

ECM was a featured stop on the three-day, statewide bus tour that seeks to expose legislators to parts of the state and Maine's economy that they may not be familiar with.  ECM's presentation included Jim Clair, CEO of Goold Health Systems, who spoke about the connection between early childhood education and improving our workforce.  Waterville Superintendent Eric Haley talked with legislators about the importance of early care and education to school readiness skills for children from low-income families.  Dr. Barbara Woodlee, President of Kennebec Valley Community College, and Dr. Martha Naber, a visiting professor in early childhood education at the University of Maine at Farmington, focused their comments on what "better" means - highly qualified staff and research-based practices and principles that center on harnessing a child's potential.
